Sunday in Yellowknife

This morning Yellowknife was covered with fog and drizzle what I like to call miserable weather. The fog has burned of or drifted away I really don't care which so long as it is gone. Hovering just above freezing and the snow we had is now gone. The wet weather makes everything very slippery as eack day things melt and they freeze again over night. Winter is coming it should just get here and start colder drier weather is much easier to live with.

I have entered my virtual boat in the Jules Verne Around the World Race which blast of this coming Sunday. This is a real race for multi- hull sailboats (115 ft. Triamarans) and we should see some incredible sailing speeds should they get the winds. The goal of this race is to set a new worlds record for circumnavigating the globe. We are aiming for 50 days or less. Sailing in the Clipper and the Jules Verne should keep a fellow busy. The third leg of the clipper from Rio to Capetown should begin shortly the 27th; I think. I am waiting for the notice to start briefing now. The briefing inform us of any ice gates or obsticiles that we are required to clear and on which side of the boat they should be when we pass. Failure to round a mark on the correct side causes the program to stop tracking your boats ranking position until the mark is correctly rounded. You can still sail your boat but they won't be scoring you, rounding things the right way is important.

The triamarans are capable of reaching incredible speeds and I am looking forward to seeing how well I can do. In the Vendee Virtual I managed to get over 400 miles in a 24 hour period the real boats set a new recond something like 586 n miles in a day, no one so far has made 600 nautical miles in a day under sail. This however is bound to be beaten sooner or ater as the boats become more amazing with each race. The changes since the first Vendee only 26 years ago are amazing and I am sure back in the day no one had any idea of what was to come.
