World Rivers Day this year is september 27th.

Thats right folks time to start planning your World Rivers Day get together. The Paddlers for Parts Association will be hosting a small get together at theYellowknife River Bridge and should you be in our neck of the woods please join us.

This will be the second Annual Rivers day at the bridge for the paddlers. Last year about forty folks showed up paddlers and Somba k'e (local paddling club) members and folks from Harleys Hardrock saloon.

We brought a few boats but it was fairly cool for paddling but a few folks paddled the river for awhile. We set up a low level slack line and it turned out to be a big hit. Horseshoes were going well until the shoes got broken.

Last year we sevred a huge roaster full of Chilli and it seemed to disappear pretty quick so this year we will go for Beef stew and bannock. The bonfires were also popular spots and since we thought it just might snow they were very handy to have. This year I want to try out an idea I have about using a hammock and a playboat to practice eskimo rolls on shore. Thinking of setting up some Greenlandic rope games as well. You can never tell what we might get up to.

Managed to knock off another 18,000 steps on my virtual stroll across Canada and I am aboout a week from the Saskatchewan border. Provinical boundries make nice way points and I celebrate each one along with a virtual party at every million steps.

I would like to continue squeezing in my bike ride as well but it makes for a every long day. Feast or famine in the north for some of us. I am losing a great deal of paddling time and that sucks as our season is so short. The weather nnerds are predicting a long fall but the leafs are turing and beginning to fall already. They are also predicting a warm winte for northern Canada due to El Nino conditions which are already lining up. What do I know I look out the window and I know what the weather is and if I'm not sure I open the door and find out.

I will begin swimming again probably in late September. The local pool closes for 3 weeks at the end of August for annual matainence. Buying the flexi pass which is the best way to go for serious swimming and is much easier on the wallet. Cheers, Greg
