Great day in Yellowknife

I got off to my usual late start and managed to walk the trail in the hottest part of the day, great planning on my part. When I got home I was ready for a dip in the lake so, I hauled the squirt boat out and suited up. My first trip this summer in the squirt boat and it hurts as much as I remembered it. I did however manage to stay in the boat longer than last year and am getting the hip flip down and soon will be ready to roll this boat.

The design of the squirt eliminates the leverage provided by your kness in a standard white water boat and I need to relearn the roll for this boat. In a squirt boat your legs are almost flat and in front of you similar to sitting on the floor with your legs extented directly in front. This is done to reduce the volume of the boat to get the sinking ability needed to squirt with style. These boats are extremely low volume layaks that work like an airplane wing allowing you to surf the currents below the waters surface and done properly you can totally submerge and go with the flow. I am miles from that stage yet but working on it. The sprayskirts like the boats are custom made and a battle to put on the boat but they work very well and keep you dry. Squirtboats full of water aren't alot of fun I have found.

Next came the 10 klick bike ride and it seems the wind is against me at every hill ( I'm just old probably.) Still it was fun and I thing it did me more good than harm so I will do it again tomorrow.

Tomorrow is my birthday and I become 52 years young, just the right age to take up squirting I think. I would sooner go sailing but the squirt boat I could just barely afford the sailboat is still just one of those day dreams . However we will get there one day.

At the end of the day we are better off than when we started and so I will live with that. suns out , rains just a threat and life near the lake is good. Cheers, Greg
