Welcome to my Blog, enjoy your stay!
I did the dreaded walk in the middle of the day and it was warmish to say the least. However it inspired me to go home fire up the creeker and head out into the bay for rolling practice. I started with the C to c roll and decided to try the sweep roll which turned out very nice. The main difference between the two rolls is the posistion where the sweep stroke comes into play. The C to C roll is a very commmon roll and when sweep comes into play in this roll when the paddle is 90 degrees to the boat. It acts as a temperary brace allow you to roll the boat with your hip flip. The sweep roll differs in the fact that the sweep comes into play as soon as the paddle is punched to the surface. You begin the sweep stroke near the bow and by the time you reach the 90 degree position you should be upright and headed down stream. To those that are new or just beginnning to get interested in kayaking "Youtube" has many good clips of these rolls in action and watching them will explain all the stuff above. I have found out that my friend who owns a barge dosen't mind if I practice seal launches off the barge when it is at the dock. Great fun and about a four foot practice run, good enough to get the launch down pat.
My creeker is in need of its annual crack repair and I sould really weld it and be done with it. I was reading about a method of patching the poly using firbeglass tape and JB plastic weld, which sounds pretty good. Welding I think is the way to go and tomorrow I will see who has a plastic welder. I know that John at JSL has one but borrowing it could be a different story. Can't hurt to ask or to see what the repair might cost. Usually I seal it with Plastisteel and cover it with foil tape and we're good for a couple of more seasons. I would like to have a newer creek boat but the "Freefall" is a great and classic boat and still running strong except of minor flaws. I bought this bought used in Edmonton with a Werner paddle for 360.00 dollars and she has seen some miles since them. Once I fix it properly I will invest in a custom skirt for it. I bought a custom skirt for my squirt boaty as you don't really have an option as the boats are custom built and am so happy with it I do sell them.
I have a pork back strap on the grill and need to keep and eye on it. Should you be living a fairly active and fun filled lifestyle you should be as hungry as I am now. Cheers folks and thanks for dropping in, Greg
