Trail float a success

I was pleased that Jays trial loading and float went well. Jay is fairly well organized and I will lend him what ever he does not have. The wind was pretty good from the south and he paddled the loaded yak for about 45 minutes and seems happy with the fit and abilities of the boat. I send Jay back to his hotel with the trip maps and he can eye them up and practice his UTM co-ordinate reading. Handy skill to have and he was catching on pretty quick with the demo.

I think the trip should be easily within his skill levels and with fair winds and a bit of sun, Jay may even have some fun. Patrick and I will shuttle him to Bechecko on Friday around 17:00 hrs. and he should be water bourne by 18:30 or there abouts.

I managed to get in my 16,000 steps today and it feels good to try and keep the walk on track. Progress is going well and if I walk everyday we are bound to complete the trail. Slowly but surely trying to arrrange the shack and find places to put everything. I have lucked into a storage shed that Matt is dismantling and has donated to me.

This will allow me to move some non esential items out and make room to work in the shack. I have to little house for my stuff and the stuff is used lots so it is hard to put it away where it is easy to reach but not in the way. Lifes full of woe, eh. Looking forward to the road trip on Friday and it should be fun. Patrick is always pleasant company to drive with and he came to shuttle me home when I did this trip the other year. I paddled from Knife to Bechecko as it was very easy for me to put in in front of my place and paddle there.  A very nice paddle and I throughly enjoyed myself.

I have completed most of my chores post Sociable and can now get ready for World Rivers day. September 28th is usually world rivers day but we are hoping to move it ahead until the end of August. The rivers here are thinking about ice at the end of September and last year our turn out was small as the weather was very chilly and even the local kayakist were giving the paddling a miss. A month earlier is much better for us. I will contact the folks in charge of this and see what they think.  I think the chances are slim that they will change the date and we may just go ahead and hold it early anyway. Cheers, Greg
