I awoke to the sound of a back- hoe working near by and thought I better see what they were up to. My neighbour decided to tear out the old dock as it was getting pretty rough and do some landscaping on our water front. Removing the dock is a great idea as last year I stepped on a plank and it gave way, nearly breaking my leg. They have done a little dredging and hopefully we will have a little more depth there now. Once the silt settles I will poke around and add the finishing touches that the back how may have missed. Managed to squeeze in the daily walk knocking off 16,000 steps on the Virtual Trans Canada trail and even got in a short bike ride. The Volvo Ocean has been keeping me pretty busy as sailing in the channel is tricky and we had shifting winds to content with. I have regained some of my position and am well ahead of when this leg started. However I am down about 2000 places from by best position. When the wind dies all around you and the competetion still as it, your bound to drop some ocean. There is less than 500 miles until we reach Marstrand our scheduled four day pit stop and the end of leg 8. At the moment we are in Dover Straight and the eye of a weather system which means light and changing winds. You need to be manning the helm if you want to get anywhere in these conditions. The system should pass in a few hours and the winds will steady up which helps usually.
