Welcome to my Blog, enjoy your stay!
Today is the 65th Anniversary of the Normandy invasion and a very historic day indeed. I personally would like to thank all surviving veterans of World War Two for everything that their efforts have provided me with. I owe them a debt that can never be fully paid and at times I wonder if many even understand what they have done for us. To those that fought and remain on foreign shores our debt is the greatest for they paid dearly for us to be here today.
I love my freedom and know very well that I owe it to Veterans of both world wars. We have still one surviving combat verteran from WW1 in Canada and this day must be an amazing day for him.
Today I rode the loop and squeezed in my 16,000 steps and am now heading off to feed Lauras dog and then the pool for the Eskimo roll sessions. A very busy day with the need to check on my boat in the Volvo I am doing lots of running around.
The pool session was cut short by a power failure and that was that. We were only in the water for ten minutes or so when the alarm went off. It is a very loud alarm, no chance you would miss hearing it. Anyway we are back there again next Saturday evening and hopefully things will work out better. After all the years we have been using the pool, this was our first cancelled class due to power failure.
The sailboats are convering on the enterance to the Enklish Channel and sometime before dawn we will pass the Normandy Invasion beaches. Perfect timing considering what day today is. I wonder if the race planners actually thought that far ahead or are we just lucky.
Time for a house check on the other end. Cheers, Greg
Volvo Ocean Leg 8 is under way and compettion is stiff. This is a short leg 1,000 miles to the first 4 day pitstop. After a four day break we are off to Sweden and will finally finish in St. Petersberg, Russia. I have been racing btween the Vendee and the Volvo Ocean now since November, 2008 and will be glad to finish. At the end of this race I will have completed two virtual circumnavigations of the globe with the wind.
The warm summer weather is starting to arrive here in Yellowknife and this makes it hard to stay here and race. Racing on the computer is harder than one would think as you really need to monitor everything constantly, should you hope to win the leg or the race. Some of the boats we are racing against are manned by more than one racer and they can go all the time with out sleeping and others are just fortunate enough to have the time needed to man the helm 24/7.
Managed to get a ride around the airport loop today on my bike and am now heading out to get my daily walk in. When that is done I will get ready to head for the Eskimo roll session we are having tonight t the pool. Still looking after two houses, one with pets and I bicycle between the places.
I can at least set up the computer at the other place and can check my race position from there as well as here. Back later with more Greg
