Water safety week this week and today is boater safety day

Water safety week all week long here in Canada. Today is Boater safety day and the Paddlers for Parts sponsored a free public swim in Yellowknife from 18:00 till 19:30 hours. Our Association "The Paddlers for Parts" sponsor this swim every year.

The event was well attended but we have had fuller swims. Can't blame folks as it was 15 C or better outside and sunny, why spend it indoors. We are finally starting to see some open water and the ice out there is candling pretty good so stay away from it.

I managed to squeeze in a short walk today along the stroll across Canada just 8,000 steps as I got side tracked. I did get a small bike ride in and a few things done around the shack.

There should be enough open water here tomorrow or by the week-end for paddling Yellowknife Bay. The ice is breaking into large floating pans which are blown around by the wind. Yesterday I could launch at the dock today the little bay was full of candled ice.

Summer is arriving better late than never. I want to get out on the bay and try the WindPaddle sails that I have and see what they can do. will be interesting to see which ones I prefer as I have been sailing a Pacific Action sail for a number of years and I am very happy with the way it works. I am considering mounting a rowing rig in the Big Red canoe as it would row better than I can paddle the battleship solo. I really need to work on my canoe skills. Once things are a little warmer I will start working the squirt boat and we will see if it is easier this year than last. Cheers, Greg
