Welcome to my Blog, enjoy your stay!
I have a medical appointment this afternoon in Edmonton and so I am catching the morning flight south. I shall return tomorrow evening as I hate to spent any time away when summer is finally here. Seems foolish to have half a dozen kayaks sitting here and for me to be some where else.
I will add to this later as I have access to a PC where I am staying, if not today tomorrow.
The plane left on time and we made great time, 01:15 hours in the air so we must of had a good tail wind. The city is warmer than Yellowknife which is great, but you still need to dress for cold to get to our airport. I have a few hours to kill before heading off to my appointment which is way down on the south side and I stay at Larga on the north side. They deliver me and pick me up as well, which is great. Most of the time I catch a ride to the appointments and make my own way home. Should everything go well I will have all this evening and part of tomorrow to check out some of my favourite stores. I hope to find a deal on head blocks and straps for my spine board.
My appoinment went well and it looks as though this will now become a regular thing. I have a a follow up in September and Dr. Keeling will decide how things are going. Being a transplant reciept leaves me venerable to certain aliments that I might otherwise not have an issue with. According to Dr. Keeling the first four years after transplant are when we are most vunerable to ogran rejection and after that the big risk is skin caner. As organ recipient I have a surpressed immune system which makes me a much easier target for this. I have just started to show signs and looks as through we are on top of it. Days of basking in the sun are over for this paddler and the 7.5 years of sun in the South Pacific didn't really do me any good . I would however not trade those years for anything as they were wonderful years and many fine memories I have of them.
Lots of sunscreen and big flopppy hats and sitting in the shade are now important things to remember. Paddling, walking and cycling as much as I do means I catch a lot of reflected sun of the road and water and so I will need to watch for that.
When Vashti Dunbar and I paddled the Mackenzie river Vash had very fair skin and burned very easily. The nurses in Ft. Simpsom gave us some white zinc cream and it did a wonderful job, but like tar when hot, it got everywhere. I will learn new habits and things should go well. Thanks to Dr. Macentyre for deciding that she didn't like the look of that thing on my ear and booking the apponitments to get it removed.
Weather in the big smoke is great hot and sunny so I guess I better stay inside.
