Getting warmer by the day

It is getting warmer by the day and I would hope so. In 3 weeks the days start getting shorter and that is a downslide towards fall. I know we still have all of June, July, August to go but missing the begining of summer in May is nice weather we would be getting back.

There is getting to be a large amount of candle ice on the small lakes and thats a sure sign folks , "To Stay Off the Ice." Going through is bad enough for the unfortunate that goes in, but rescue becomes much harder as we can no longer work off the ice and without equipment may not be able to reach you. Many rescues are preformed by untrained passer-bys but the risk is really increased.

Today I hit the South side of Edmonton on the Virtual trail walk of Canada and will be cuising through Edmonton for about 4//5 days. next landmark is FT. Saskatchewan and points east as this is where the trail turns east. There is a few weeks worth of walking east in Alberta and then I hit Saskatchewan or Big Sky country as they call thenselves. Summer in the Prairies should be grand.

Sunday I am paddling on Yellowknife river but I will be paddling the edges of Great Slave Lake tomorrow, practicing a little solo canoeing skills. I am well pleased with the fit of my new PFD and will be using it all the time. Looks like old faithful is being down graded to second choice PFD. Sunday will be a good day to try out the kayak rolling hammock idea that has been kicking around in my brain. I plan on lashing a kayak into a mesh Hammock and stringing it between to trees and seeing if we can dry roll the rig. Anything to avoid getting wet this early in the season , the water at the river is just a couple of degrees above freezing at the moment. It will be fun and if we are lucky we have found a cjheap off season roll practice method. I could build one that is a little more robust but I will see how this goes and refine it from there.
